2010 Toyota Matrix

Fuel Efficiency meets Dependability and Reliability

Some cars have a language all their own.  Inspired by the desire for unhinged fin without sacrificing the need for excellent fuel efficiency, the 2010 Toyota Matrix is a car design that spits fire, yet speaks volumes about quality and dependability.  It's a driving experience that stimulates conversation, yet in the same breath, leaves the driver speechless.  The 2010 Toyota Matrix, Moving Forward.

Drivers, start your engines, your hearts and your minds.  Finally, a car that has it all, and then some.  The 2010 Matrix gives you a style and performance, technology and comfort, but most importantly, the matrix gives you confidence.  Its' potent yet fuel-efficient VVT-i engine delivers an EPA estimated 29 highway MPG rating--saving gas has never looked so good.

In many instances in life, what you see is what you get.  In the 2010 Matrix, you get exactly what you see, yet so much more.  Toyota designers came together to create a head turning design with attitude and purpose.  The arching roofline and available rear underbody spoilers put Matric in a lane reserved for those who have no reservations about being, well, cool.

Powertrains and Performance

On the base front-wheel-drive Toyota Matrix, you'll find a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and a four-speed automatic is optional.

Matrix S and XRS models upgrade to a 2.4-liter engine that makes 158 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, as well as an optional five-speed automatic alongside the standard five-speed manual. The AWD S comes only with the four-speed automatic.  Equipped with the 1.8-liter engine, the Matrix returns above-average fuel economy -- 26 mpg city/32 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined with the manual, according to the EPA, while the four-speed auto yields 25/31/28.
Steady as she goes, Matrix XRS and S AWD come with an independent double-wishbone rear suspension that allows each rear wheel to act and react to forces independently.  The result? Both rear wheels are kept in maximum contact with the road surface, enhancing cornering grip when driving over rough or uneven road surfaces.

Interior Style and Special Features

Comfort, style, room to move:  Matrix has it all.  Our designers gave Matrix a spacious, 5-passenger interior filled with intelligent features and crafted from sporty materials that complement the aggressive attitude of Matrix.  Settle into the stylish contoured surroundings and feel yourself unwind as you sense the quiet, comfort and quality that's been engineered into Matrix.

Inside, the Matrix has a significantly edgier ambiance than the Corolla. If you think this compact sedan's interior lacks flair, the Matrix is the antidote. A telescoping steering wheel and ample seat-track travel allow drivers of all sizes to get comfortable, and the controls are both intuitive and attractive. In back, the tall, deep bench is inviting for children and adults alike, and it folds completely flat in 60/40 sections. Fixed tie-down points and rubber inserts help keep cargo from sliding around. There are 19.8 cubic feet of luggage capacity behind the rear seats and an impressive 61.5 cubes with the seats folded flat (note that this figure also likely takes into account the folded front passenger seat).

Moonroof - Let the world inside.  With an available moonroof, the Matrix opens up to the moon, the sun, the stars and the city.
Dual Glove Box - Get organized:  The Matrix has a huge, dual glove box with a big, deep bin.  A separate enclosure within the bin is ideal for important papers that need to be kept close at hand.
Overhead Storage - A place for everything:  Use the available overhead storage compartment to stash everyday essentials like sunglasses.

Slip behind the wheel of the 2010 Matrix, and the cockpit's controls and gauges embrace you.  Nine speakers soak you in powerful sound from an available JBL audio system that includes XM Satellite Radio Capability with Bluetooth wireless technology, for more convenient, hands-free phone calls.  Or plug into your own music with the auxiliary audio jack.  Matrix's available DVD navigation system with available XM NavTraffic can help you zero in on your destination with ease.

Safety

The 2010 Matrix has you in mind when it comes to advanced safety engineering.  Matrix has the protection of 3-point seatbelts at every seating position.  Matrix comes standard with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) that consists of six airbags.  The SRS includes driver and front passenger advanced airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear curtain airbags.  Another advanced safety feature that's standard on Matrix:  Active front headrests.

Vehicle Stability Control - Enhanced VSC helps prevent the vehicle from slipping sideways while cornering.  To help improve control in these situations, enhanced VSC automatically regulates engine output and brake-force distribution to the wheels.  In addition, the system simultaneously provides the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist torque to help the driver steer in the direction that provides greatest control.  An off switch, designed to eliminate VSC, is useful in certain critical conditions.

Active Front Headrests - Corolla Comes Standard with active front headrests in the front seats that help keep the occupants' heads ideally positioned in the event of certain rear-end collisions.

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) - ABS pulses brakes rapidly during hard braking to help keep the wheels from locking up, and thus helps preserve steering control.
